|
John and Becky enjoy playing hosts to new friends in the outdoors. Their experiences range from local paddling trips to a 5 1/2 month thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. While folks say they love the Williams' experience, we all know that it's Becky's food that keep people signing up for every trip or seminar they lead! |

| When you mention paddling in the Atchafalaya Basin, one generally thinks of the over 885,000 acres of land between the east and west levees. These levees were constructed in the 1930's in response to the great flood of 1927. When the levees were constructed, part of the Basin was cut off from the rest. This "Forgotten" portion lies just west of the levee south of Catahoula extending down to the south end of Lake Fausse point.
Our paddle trip will take us through the Forgotten part of the basin that exists outside the levees. This area is special in that it is mostly unaffected by the muddy flood waters and strong currents of spring - normally leaving the waters clear and clean, the trees large and beautiful and the wildlife abundant. Our route will take us from Bayou Portage, through Bayou Benoit and Lake Dauterive to our finish at Fausse Point State Park. We'll eat a mobile lunch right in our canoes on the water as we make our way to Fausse Point. |
